TITLE: Guardian ad litem

DEPARTMENT: Courts

SALARY: $32,000

LOCATION: Susquehanna County Courthouse

REPORTS TO: President Judge

POSITION STATUS: Non-Union, Part-Time, variable hours

General:

The purpose of this position is to act as the guardian ad litem for any minor child subject to a Dependency action or in any proceeding in Orphan’s Court relating to termination of parental rights filed in the Court of Common Pleas of Susquehanna County or the Orphans’ Court of Susquehanna County or the Orphans’ Court of Susquehanna County. This position reports to the President Judge.

Minimum Requirements: Must be a member in good standing with the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

Education/Training: Must be willing to attend any training or educational seminars as may be required.

Confidentiality: Must be able to maintain client confidentiality as prescribed by the Rules of Professional Conduct.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must have a working knowledge of or the ability to become knowledge of the Juvenile Act, Juvenile Court Procedures, dependency proceedings, termination proceedings as well as the ability to perform appellate work. Must also have the ability to function as a litigator during shelter care hearings, dependency hearings, placement review hearings, termination hearings and related court proceedings.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues, clients, court staff and those affiliated with Dependency matters.

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires an understanding of appropriate courtroom decorum and the Rules of Professional Conduct.

Special Requirements:  Must be willing to travel to placement facilities, other county courthouses, and educational training venues.
