REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF IT
SUPERVISES: IT DEPARTMENT STAFF
POSITION STATUS: FULL-TIME; NON-UNION ELIGIBLE
RATE OF PAY: $24.15 PER HOUR
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of IT/System Administrator is responsible for overseeing, under the direction of the Director of IT, the daily operations of the network infrastructure devices, including servers, firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless access points. The Assistant Director of IT/System Administrator will also monitor and maintain Counties servers, workstations, and mobile assets. Additional tasks will include reviewing daily logs, performs preventative maintenance, and researches new technologies and trends.
The Assistant Director of IT/System Administrator will assist the Director of IT with planning and executing projects and initiatives, reviewing and updating processes and procedures, and plan objectives, policies, budgets, and procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Four (4) years functional experience in an IT customer service support role or demonstrated knowledge, ability, and skills to perform the work.
• Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, DHCP and DNS administration.
• Experience with Microsoft Server and Desktop and Linux operating systems.
• Experience with virtualization, VMWare preferred.
• Fundamental understanding of LAN/WAN concepts including knowledge of firewalls, and LAN\WAN routing and switching. CCNA certification preferred.
• Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and exhibit professionalism at all times.
• Must have an aptitude for support of PC-based applications and the ability to business applications, as well as support internally developed applications.
• Must have the ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
• Must have the ability to troubleshoot wide variety of hardware and software issues.
• Basic knowledge of Cyber Security best practice.
• Must possess strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide off-hours support 24/7 if needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervise IT Department staff.
• Assist with department payments, chargebacks, payroll, and orders are entered into the financial system.
• Properly documents, prioritizes, and escalates, utilizing the Help Desk ticketing system, all reported problems together with the appropriate resolution required for solving each problem within acceptable timeframe, as defined by the current service levels.
• Provides communication to appropriate departments and groups regarding system alerts or outages, planned upgrades, restoration activities, and technology asset management.
• Maintains good customer relations with all Susquehanna County personnel and vendors.
• Review and test daily backups to ensure operation and recoverability.
• Research new technologies and make recommendations.
• Assists, coordinates or maintains the following technologies under the supervision of the IT Director:
o Physical and Virtual Servers
o Hosted Software
o Network equipment including firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, DNS, DHCP, and device configurations.
o Cofense Phishing and LMS programs
o Active Directory, Group Policies, and logon scripts
o Deploying and verifying security and software updates.
o Network Users and Email Accounts
• Maintain changes and basic troubleshooting of VOIP telephone hardware and software.
• Coordinates and participates in support with hardware and software vendors and their associated departments.
• Monitors core systems and reviews logs to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
• Identify and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues in core systems.
• Produce appropriate documentation on installations and configuration changes.
• Assist in maintaining inventory of computer hardware, software, supplies, and licenses.
• Provides backup support to IT Technician with laptop/tablet/desktop support, including configuration of software/hardware, troubleshooting/repair of software/hardware issues, moves equipment, and support of desktop initiatives and projects, as necessary.
• Assists with management and support of security system including access control and video systems.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
• Able to lift up to 50lbs. and climb ladders up to 10 feet.
• Must be able to work well under busy circumstances and multi-task.
Special Requirements:
• The applicant must possess a valid Driver’s License and be insurable with a willingness to travel as needed.
• The applicant must pass the pre-employment testing requirements.
o Background Check with no record of criminal convictions; and
o Drug screen;
• The applicant must meet and comply with Susquehanna County’s Employment and Acceptable Use Policies.
