POSITION SUMMARY:
The Correctional Officer, under the administrative and operational direction of the Warden and the Deputy Wardens dependent upon current duties, will be responsible in maintaining order supervision of conduct and providing nonprofessional counseling of residents in the Facility on an assigned shift.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Minimum Requirements:
- Education equivalent to completion of twelfth (12) Grade
- Valid/not expired driver’s license
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of the purpose and methods used in maintaining order and discipline in a Correctional Facility.
- Some knowledge and understanding of individual and group behavior and attitudes of man and women under restraint.
- Knowledge of methods used in search and inspection to include the reasons for these practices.
- Ability to respond to an emergency in a timely fashion.
- Complete a Defensive Tactics Course, Munitions Course, and display your ability to resist attack.
Duties and Responsibilities:
An Employee in this position is responsible for:
- prevention of escape, maintaining discipline and providing advice and guidance in assisting residents in their adjustment to the Facility, as well as getting them involved in programs offered by the Institution.
- Control of Keys, Maintaining Log Books, and other Internal Records of residents’ activities as required by the Facility. Work is performed in accordance with written Rules, Regulations, and special Oral Instructions of the Warden, his/her designees, and/or his/her representative who reviews work by inspection.
- Participate in yearly training programs as scheduled.
- Take residents to work assignments and maintain order and discipline in places of assembly.
- Participate in nonprofessional counseling of residents on situational problems chiefly associated with adjusting to the Facility environment.
- Supervise work details of a varied nature both inside and outside of the Facility environment.
- Supervise residents during meals and recreational periods.
- Search residents for contraband after visits and upon entering the Facility after performing work outside the Facility (both strip and pat searches).
- Issue clothing and house cleaning supplies to residents as required.
- Supervise daily clean-up of resident quarters and designated areas of the Facility.
- Process residents in and out of the Facility which includes, but is not limited to, gathering information, completing search of Inmate and property for contraband and escorting residents to various housing units.
- Observe and report changes in personality and demeanor of residents.
- Responsible for the orderly movements of residents inside and outside the Facility.
- Take on-the-spot disciplinary measures as required to maintain order and protect residents from harming themselves or others. Prepare and submit misconduct reports involving incidents of a major nature to the Chairman of the Disciplinary Board for necessary action.
- Monitor and maintain order during organized programs and activities, such as classes, entertainment and recreational activities.
- Other assignments as directed by the Warden and/or the Deputy Wardens
