POSITION STATUS:         Full-Time; Union-Eligible
SALARY:                        $16.47/Hour

GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position performs a variety of maintenance tasks that are relatively all encompassing. It is comprised of general work to be done at the Recycling Center and the County jail, including some general equipment maintenance, construction, electrical work, painting, and remodeling as needed. It may also include lawn care, snow removal, or general maintenance at any County building. This position also has the responsibility for the maintenance, monitoring, computer assisted modification and adjustment, as needed, to the various HVAC mechanisms present within the County Buildings. Also, snow removal, including plowing and salting around the jail and recycling center. This position works under general supervision on routine recurring assignments, receiving specific instructions on each new and/or unusual assignment. The work is reviewed via inspection or discussion with the Department Head of Maintenance. 

MINIMUN REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Experience/Skills:  Two years’ experience working in general contracting, electrical work or apprenticeship, maintenance and/or general construction, HVAC, or any combination thereof that would fulfill same.
Working knowledge of and basic skills with computer systems. 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic electrical work, carpentry, remodeling, HVAC, plumbing, lawn care, snow removal, and painting.
Ability to work independently, or as part of a team, with a minimum of supervision.
Knowledge of safety precautions and OSHA requirements.
Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
Ability to work well with others, sometimes in close proximity, in a prison setting, possibly around inmates, and under difficult conditions.
Must possess general computer related skills, and the ability to read, write, and speak English.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following list is not exhaustive. It is intended to be a guide only as to the type of work required:
General electrical work in and on County properties and grounds.
General maintenance and repair of Recycling Center, County Jail, and other County buildings.
General landscaping and grounds work, as needed.
Repair and maintain County equipment including, but not limited to, weed eaters, garden tractors and minor vehicle repairs as needed or directed.
Monitoring of and responding to a variety of HVAC related responsibilities and adjustments from office or remote locations.
Change filters in HVAC units every 6 months.
Check drive belts on HVAC units quarterly.
Monitor and maintain sewage system.
Monitor heating and water in trailer and cubicles in the lot.
Any and all other duties as assigned by the Department Head.

PHYSICAL/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is performed both inside and outside in varying conditions including wet, humid, extreme heat or cold.
  • May be required to work overtime or be called back to work to work during off hours for urgent and/or emergency situations (i.e. flooding, snow storms, pipe breaks, etc.)
  • May be required to stand, walk, use hands and arms to operate tools and equipment, climb, stoop and lift or carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to work with arms and hands overhead and at times while on a ladder.
  • Noise level in work environment, while typically moderate, may occasionally increase to expose incumbent to higher levels of decibels (i.e. alarms or equipment).
  • May be exposed to excessive dust, mold or mildew, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.  Will be exposed to cleaning substances.
